30-AUGUST-2024 - THE DIFFERENCE I WILL MAKE

MAIN THEME IS: WHY AM I HERE?

TITLE: THE DIFFERENCE I WILL MAKE

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Matthew 5:16 (NIV)

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." -

Devotional:

Each of us has the potential to make a difference in the world, no matter how small or big. Our purpose is often tied to the impact we can have on others.

Adesewa, a 16-year-old volunteer, visited a local orphanage quite often with her mum.

This built compassion and empathy in her. She met a resident named Ijeoma, who was lonely and hardly spoke any words. Adesewa was drawn to Ijeoma, so on one of her visits, she showed Ijeoma a photo of her own artwork, and to her surprise, Ijeoma began to talk about her love for art.

From that moment on, Adesewa visited Ijeoma every week, and they created art together as she had pleaded with her mom to get her resources for more art and craft. Soon, other residents joined in, and the orphanage transformed into a more vibrant community.

Adesewa's small act of kindness sparked a chain reaction.

- The staff of the orphanage were inspired to create more activities for the residents.

- Adesewa's friends joined her in volunteering, and together they made a bigger impact.

Adesewa realized that her small difference had created a ripple effect, touching many lives. She learned that even the smallest acts of kindness and passion can have a profound impact, inspiring others to make a difference too!

We can find ways to make meaningful contributions to our communities and the world.

Observing our immediate environment and not ignoring an unhappy face, not walking past a piece of paper on the class floor without picking it, lending a helping hand to those who need it allows us to shine our light brightly, making a difference that honors God and improves our lives, society and the world at large,

Here are a few reflective questions:

  1. Can I reflect on a time when I felt I made a difference, no matter how small. How did it make me feel, and what did I learn from the experience?
  2. Am I ready to consider the challenges I might face to make a difference? How can I prepare myself to overcome these obstacles?
  3. How can I seek God's guidance in understanding the difference He wants me to make in the world?

 Let us pray:

Dear Lord, be in my head and in my understanding, in my eye and in my seeing, in my mouth and in my speaking, in my heart and in my thinking so that I will make the difference the world awaits.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

  • I am here because I have a helping hand
  • I will bring positive change to my environment.
  • I believe in myself. I will do great things through the small things I do.

The world awaits your heart, show kindness. Start with yourself, I’ll see you tomorrow.
