12-NOVEMBER-2024 - TRICK OF THE TRADE

THE MAIN THEME: HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?

TITLE: TRICK OF THE TRADE

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Proverbs 22:29 (NIV)

Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.

Devotional:

It was another frustrating day at school. John had returned home and the thoughts of dropping out of school came up again. Lately, he had been struggling with his new courses and it was starting to take a toll on him. “When does all this school thing end?” he complained to his father and then stomped off to hide away in his room as he didn’t want another day of being lectured on how he needed to work harder to succeed in life.

John is not alone, sometimes we feel overwhelmed with what we are currently handling and the thought of quitting appears more desirable. Never quit. It is important to know that personal development is a continuous thing.

You will notice that once you have set a goal and attained it, after a while you want to do something else or something bigger. Each new stage comes with its attendant discomfort, uncertainty and challenges. However, if we position ourselves correctly, we increase our chances of success. If you are feeling overwhelmed, it is okay to rest, to ask for directions and to try again.

Decide where you want to go and what you need. Commit to learning what is necessary for the next stage. Directly and indirectly learn from mentors; through books and other media. Surround yourself with like minds. Maintain self-discipline and be grateful for your progress however small or big. Hardwork, diligence, consistency, and progress, not perfection is the trick of the trade.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Am I diligent?
  • Do I know enough to help me reach my desired goal?
  •  Who or what community should I align with to support me to achieve my goals?

Let us pray:

Dear God, I thank you that I am not helpless. Help me locate the resources I need to be all that you have called me to be in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • My skills will get me to where I am going.
  • I am competent
  • I am diligent
  • I stand before kings not before ordinary men.

Do have a fulfilling day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow!
