17-NOVEMBER-2024 - OVERCOMING DISTRACTIONS
THE MAIN THEME: HOW DO I GET TO WHERE I AM GOING?
TITLE: OVERCOMING DISTRACTIONS
The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Proverb 4:25-27 (NIV)
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
Devotional:
The Latin root for the word distraction comes from dis- which means ‘apart’, and trahere, which means ‘drag’. In other words, anything that drags you apart from your vision and mission in life is a distraction.
Let’s look at some bible characters that fall for this demon called distraction: Eve was distracted by a conversation with the enemy which led to the fall of man. Abraham was distracted by fear, betraying his wife on two occasions. David got distracted by pleasure which led to more sin of murder, destabilising his family and opening gates of immorality among his children. Samson, lost focus on his divine purpose, died alongside his enemies.
We give our distractions all sorts of names, but at the end of the day, distraction is anything that pulls our attention away from God. None of us is immune to distractions, nonetheless, how we respond to them is what matters.
The demon of distractions is interested in subtle tactics of making us feel vulnerable. As a child of God, you have the power to resist and guard your heart.
Presently, tech has made distraction much more common. We have more opportunities to be distracted through our cell phones, and other devices that offer endless hours of entertainment, making us consumers of content rather than become co-creators with God.
Our anchor scripture reminds us of the need to look straight ahead, fix our gaze directly on what is set before us. Give careful thought to our paths and be steadfast.
Here are a few reflective questions:
- What are the subtle ways the enemy has used to put me off my focus?
- What proactive measures can I take to guard my mind from distractions?
Let us pray:
Lord thank you for your word to me today, I receive the power to avoid and overcome distractions guarding my heart with all diligence in Jesus name. Amen
Please say these words of affirmation: Say them mean, own them and live them--
- I will not be distracted from where I am going.
- am capable of guarding my heart from distractions
- My eyes look straight ahead; I fix my gaze directly on my goals. I am steadfast and unmovable.
- I am in control of my mind.
Have a focused filled day dear ones. I’ll see you tomorrow
