Devotional:

Everyone has a different race, pace and path in life. Comparing yours with another’s is very dangerous. Some people may appear to reach their goals before you; it will do you good to remember that there are also some behind you as well. Be grateful for everyone.  Comparison is the killer of joy, it will not make you notice your achievements.

Do you recall the parable of the lost son in Luke 15?  The elder brother, who owns everything the father has, felt unloved and uncelebrated by his father, when he threw a party to welcome his lost son.

When we compare ourselves to others, it robs us of our identity and worth. It is a demonstration that we do not understand who we are and what is given to us.

Focusing on what others have makes us lose sight of ourselves.  It deprives us of inner peace and joy that comes with the confidence of who we are and what we can do. 

Comparing ourselves to others breeds resentment, ingratitude, lack of empathy, self-pity and selfishness. Comparison is toxic.

If you want to compare at all; compare your today to yesterday. That is the true measure of progress.

 Here are a few reflective questions:

• Am I envious of anyone?
• Do I appreciate what I have achieved?
• Am I grateful for the achievements of others?
• Do I compare myself with someone else?

Let us pray

Dear Lord thank you for your word to me today. I recognize that you love me and everyone else unconditionally, there is no need for comparison, help me to acknowledge all that I am and all that I possess in you in Jesus name. Amen

Please say these words of affirmation: Say them mean, own them and live them--

• God knows when I will get there
• I am deeply loved by my father
• I have my own race and I will run it effectively.
