23-DECEMBER-2024 - PREVENTING BURNOUT

THE MAIN THEME: WHEN DO I GET THERE?

TITLE: PREVENTING BURNOUT

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Devotional:
Burnout happens when we push ourselves too hard for too long, ignoring our limits and sacrificing rest.

It often creeps in slowly—one extra task here, one late night there—until we feel exhausted, unmotivated, and overwhelmed. Preventing burnout is not just about taking a break; it’s about creating a healthy balance between work and rest, aligning our lives with our priorities, and recognizing when we need to recharge. God wants us to live purposefully, but He also calls us to rest and take care of ourselves.

Take the story of Mother Teresa, for example. Known for her incredible compassion and dedication, she recognized the need for rest and renewal. She scheduled time for prayer, rest, and personal care, recognizing that to serve others, she needed to maintain her own physical, mental, and spiritual health. This balance allowed her to pour into others consistently without reaching a breaking point.

Preventing burnout involves setting healthy boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and staying connected to God’s purpose for our lives. It’s okay to say no, to delegate tasks, and to take breaks. When we care for ourselves, we have the energy and passion to pursue what matters most.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • Am I feeling stretched too thin or exhausted?
  • What activities or commitments might I  need to scale back on to prevent burnout?
  • How can I  include more rest and renewal in my routine?

Let us pray:
Lord, help me to find balance in my life and give me the wisdom to know when to rest. Teach me to lean on Your strength, to release my burdens to You, and to trust that I can do more by working in Your timing and not my own. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • God knows when I will get there.
  • I honor my need for rest and renewal
  • I set healthy boundaries, prioritize self-care, and trust that taking time to recharge allows me to live with purpose and joy.
  • As I rest, my body rejuvenates and recovers itself.

Have a beautiful day. Take good care of yourself. I’ll see you tomorrow.
