26-JANUARY-2025 - THE FOUR VITAL RELATIONSHIP KEYS
THE MAIN THEME: WHO DO I GO WITH?
TITLE: THE FOUR VITAL RELATIONSHIP KEYS
The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Romans 15:5 ((NIV)
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had,
Devotional:
Man is a relational being - God planned it that way. In Genesis, we are told that God said it was not good for Adam to be alone (Genesis 2:18) so he created Eve - someone like Adam, with whom he could share his life.
Our lives revolve around people- our families, our friends, our colleagues, etc. While it is true that being in relationships is God’s idea for us to have the best experience of life, it is not always easy to maintain these relationships. Today, we will look at 4 vital relationship keys that make the wheel of relationships run a bit smoothly.
- Effective communication: We should practice open, honest but respectful communication. When you listen to others, listen actively, hear what they are saying, rather than listening just to respond to what they said.
- Trust: be consistent, reliable and transparent in your relationships.
- Mutual respect: acknowledge and value others’ opinions, feelings and boundaries.
- Empathy and understanding: try to understand others’ perspectives without being judgmental. It is okay if people have a different opinion to yours, show compassion even when you disagree and know that others don’t need to be wrong so that you are right- we can both be right.
These simple tips will work with your family members, your friends or even in work settings. Getting the best out of our relationships is a two-way street, when we invest in our relationships and give our best, we increase the chances of a more harmonious relationship. Will this always work? Perhaps not, as we cannot control how others respond to us; but if we do our best, chances are that we will have less turmoil in our relationships.
Here are a few reflective questions:
- How can I show kindness to someone I struggle to get along with?
- What can I do today to improve my relationship with others?
- Is there a strained or broken relationship that I need to work on? What do I need to do?
- What boundaries can I set to ensure others don’t
Let Us Pray:
Dear God, I thank you for your love that makes a difference in me. Help me extend that same love to others in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Please say these words of affirmation after me. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:
- I will be intentional about all my relationships.
- I choose to love others as God loves me.
- I will listen actively and respond with understanding and grace.
- I will live by the golden rule- relating with others as I desire them to relate to me.
Have a beautiful day lovelies. See you tomorrow.
