29-JANUARY-2025 - THE POWER OF LOVE

THE MAIN THEME: WHO DO I GO WITH?

TITLE: THE POWER OF LOVE

The bible verse for today’s devotional is:  1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

 Devotional:

Love is in action not words. Of course, words are important as we need to convey our thoughts through words, but beyond just saying ‘I love you’ to your friends and family members, what you do as a corresponding action to demonstrate that love is more important and that is what lingers in the hearts of your loved ones.

There is a story in the bible of the good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), which is essentially a narrative of how a stranger, one who was the least likely to have a good reason to show care to a jew, was able to suspend his prejudice and offer help to someone who needed it, even to the extent of committing more resources than he originally planned to spend for the welfare of another person. That was love in action!

As we go along our day, we will come across different people who tick us off in all the wrong ways - the call for today is to choose to be the difference maker. You can choose to ignore the obvious provocation, choose to be patient and offer grace to those who do not ‘get it’ as fast as you do(whatever ‘it’ is), choose to say a kind word or withhold the angry words when wronged, choose to believe the best so that you can respond with kindness, choose to rejoice when others get something you wanted, choose to be love personified!

Here are a few reflective questions:

-          Who is in my life who may may help or be kind today?

-          How can I go beyond words to show love through action?

-         How can I use my actions to reflect God’s love in my daily life?

Let Us Pray:

Dear God, I thank you for your love that makes a difference in me. Help me extend that same love to others in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation after me. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • I will show love through my actions, no matter how small they seem.
  • I choose to respond to hurt with love and kindness.
  • My actions will reflect God’s love and inspire others to change.

Have a lovely day. Take good care of yourselves. I’ll see you tomorrow.
