09-APRIL-2025 - BUILDING RESILIENCE

THE MAIN THEME: CHANGING YOUR WORLD

TITLE: BUILDING RESILIENCE

Our bible verse for today’s devotional is:   2 Corinthians 4:8 (NIV)

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair.”

Devotional:

Resilience is a word that we have come to hear a lot about these days- in its simplest definition, it is the ability to bounce back when life knocks you down. History is filled with stories of men and women, boys and girls who defied seemingly insurmountable challenges and got to ‘the other side’ victorious.

After Nelson Mandela endured an unfair jail term for 27 years, he came out, not bitter or broken but with the light of hope still burning in him- he led his country towards peace and reconciliation instead of seeking vengeance.

In life, there will be many hurdles to climb/cross, sometimes it’s everyday challenges like not being accepted by our friends, being misunderstood by our family, or the challenges that come as a direct (or indirect) consequence of our actions. No matter what the challenges are, our lesson today is a reminder that nothing strange is happening to you, and no matter what you face, you have what it takes to bounce back, get back into the game and win- all the time. Of course, this does not mean we should pretend that we are not hurt when unpleasant things happen, but despite the hurt, we must choose to move on.

So, what can we do to fortify ourselves and increase our chances of bouncing back after a challenge?

  1. We can lean on God
  2. Recognize what the challenge is and seek solutions, while minding the lessons
  3. Encourage yourself (sometimes you need to be your own cheerleader)
  4. Find a real support system, with people who can encourage you
  5. Be positive, remind yourself of God’s promises, and be gracious to yourself..

Afterall, God has promised in Proverbs 24:16- that even if the righteous trip seven times, they will get up again. No matter where you are or what you are going through.. get up, dust yourself and keep going- you’ve got this!

Here are a few reflective questions:

-          What is one challenge you are facing right now? [can you write a short prayer asking God to help you with that specifically]

-          What is one verse or one affirmation you will meditate on as a reminder that all is well?

-          What can you do to support  a friend who may be going through challenges?

Let Us Pray:

Dear God, no matter what comes my way, help me remember you are with me and that all things must work together for my good in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation after me. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • I am strong, I am well able to overcome any challenge.
  • God’s Spirit lives in me and He strengthens me
  • I cross every hurdle with grace and ease.

Have an awesomely pleasant day lovelies. I’ll see you tomorrow.
