12-APRIL-2025 - RESISTING PEER PRESSURE
THE MAIN THEME: CHANGING YOUR WORLD
TITLE: RESISTING PEER PRESSURE
Our quote for today’s devotional is:
Wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it. Right is right even if no one is doing it.”
– St. Augustine
Devotional:
I have always wondered how ten grown men could conclude that the only solution to their problem was to eliminate their younger brother Joseph. It is believable that there must have been times when they played with Joseph, shared meals, or even played games together- there must have been a bond. Each brother may have had a pleasant memory or their own strong reasons why Joseph’s life should be spared but only Rueben spoke up that Joseph’s life should be spared. However, I doubt that even Rueben’s voice was that convincing- as a first born, he could have insisted that such an atrocity would not happen on his watch but this was not the case.
That is how loud the voice of the crowd can be, it can literally shut out a single voice of reason. Whether it is the pressure to tell a lie, to cheat in an exam, betray a friend or any other thing, there will come a time when our values will be tested, and we will need to stand up against the crowd. So how do we, as world changers, ensure we resist the loud voice of evil?
- Know your values- Being aware of what you believe and saying so to those around you can set you apart.
- Stay with the right crowd- As they say, birds of the same feather flock together. If your closest friends have the same values as you do, you can encourage and root for one another.
- Be bold- be courageous enough to say NO when something goes against your values.
- Ask God for strength- We are not helpless. God has promised to help us, activate that help through prayers.
Here are a few reflective questions:
- When was the last time you felt pressured to do something you knew wasn’t right?
- How did you respond, and what would you do differently next time?
- Who in your life encourages you to stay true to your values?
Let Us Pray:
Dear God, give me the courage to stand firm and do what is right even if it’s not popular; help me represent the Kingdom rightly in Jesus’ name. Amen
Please say these words of affirmation after me. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:
- I am bold and courageous in my faith.
- I choose to stand for what’s right, even when it’s hard.
- God’s strength helps me resist negative pressure.
Have a great day, dear ones. Take good care. I’ll see you tomorrow.
