11-MAY-2025 - FAILURE AND HUMILITY
THE MAIN THEME: FAILING FORWARD
TITLE: FAILURE AND HUMILITY
Our bible verse for today’s devotional is: James 4:6 (NIV):
"But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.’"
Devotional:
Failure has a way of humbling us. It strips away our pride and reminds us that we don’t have all the answers. But here’s the good news—humility is a powerful key to growth.
Imagine a student who always scores the highest in class. One day, they fail an important test. At first, they felt embarrassed, but then they realised something—they had stopped studying as hard because they thought they knew everything. That failure, though painful, teaches them the value of humility. Instead of giving up, they choose to learn and improve.
Throughout history, many great people have faced failure. Thomas Edison failed thousands of times before inventing the light bulb. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for years before leading South Africa to freedom. What did they have in common? Humility. They didn’t let failure define them. Instead, they embraced their setbacks, learned from them, and kept moving forward.
In the Bible, Peter failed when he denied Jesus three times. Yet, he humbled himself before God instead of running from his mistake. That humility led to his restoration and influential role in building the early church.
Failure is not the end—it is a reminder that we are always learning. It humbles us so we can grow. When we embrace humility, we open the door to wisdom, resilience, and success.
Here are a few reflective questions:
- How has failure humbled me in the past?
- Do I see failure as a lesson or as an identity? Why?
- How can humility help me become a better person?
- What is one failure I can learn from today?
Let us pray:
Dear Lord, thank You for the lessons that failure teaches me. Help me see failure not as a defeat but as a chance to grow. Give me the humility to learn from my mistakes and the strength to move forward. Amen.
Please say these words of affirmation after me. Say them, mean them, own them, and live them:
- I embrace failure as a stepping stone to success.
- Humility allows me to learn and grow.
- My mistakes do not define me—God’s grace does.
- Every setback is a setup for a greater comeback.
Stay humble, keep learning, and never stop growing! I’ll see you tomorrow!
