21-JULY-2024 - ITS NOT ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE SAY BUT WHAT I SAY ABOUT MYSELF

Title: It’s Not About What People Say but What I Say About Myself

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Devotional:

The opinions and perceptions of others can certainly have an impact, but ultimately, how you view yourself is what truly matters.  You can not control what others say, but you can control how you react.

How you react to what people say about you can be challenging, especially during the teenage years because of the intense social dynamics that happen at this stage; but remember that how you react or respond tells a lot about who you are.

Respectfully affirm yourself always. Instead of letting negative comments affect you, choose to respond in a way that reflects your maturity. If someone says something hurtful or inappropriate, calmly but firmly communicate your boundaries and stand up for yourself.

Make a list of positive attributes, values, or beliefs affirming your worth, capabilities, and potential. Affirming yourself can help boost your self-esteem, reinforce a positive self-image, and cultivate resilience in the face of challenges. You can use it to counteract negative talk or criticisms. Do not forget to pay attention to the positive feedback and compliments you receive rather than dwelling on the negative.

Here are a few reflective questions::

  • Who am I?
  • What do I believe about myself?

Let us pray:

God, help me to surround myself with people who uplift and support me. When I am told unpleasant things, help me respond in ways that please you.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

I am worthy of love and respect.

I am loved with everlasting love.

I am capable of overcoming any obstacle.

I am proud of who I am becoming.

Enjoy your day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow.

20-JULY-2024 - EXPLORING YOUR IDENTITY

TITLE: Exploring Your Identity

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength’

Devotional:

Who are you? Every time you hear that question,  what comes to mind?

Chances are that you typically give responses such as your name, your occupation, or the roles you play per time in life. While these are all correct, the question of identity is beyond physical descriptions or what roles we occupy. At the core, our identity is tied to the purpose God created us for.

Much like we would refer to an instructional / user manual to determine a creator’s intent about the functionality of an appliance or equipment, we ought to refer to the Bible- God’s instructional manual on how we (His creation) should be identified and how we should function.

You may be asking how do I do that? Well, for starters you can list out promises from the Bible that talks about who you are in Christ.

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • What Bible verses speak about who I am in Christ?
  • What is the implication of knowing my identity?

Let us pray:

Thank you, Lord, that I find my true identity in You. No matter what life throws at me, help me remember who I am, and may that knowledge secure me in You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

I am who God says I am. I am blessed, redeemed, forgiven, accepted...I am complete in Christ.

Do have a good day filled with the knowledge of who you are. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow.

19-JULY-2024 - I AM THE GREATEST

TITLE: I Am The Greatest

The bible verses for today’s devotional are: i. Colossians 2:10  ii. John 15:16 (NIV)

  1. …and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.”
  2. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you"

Devotional:

Quiz time? What is a cup made for? What is a spoon made for? What is a car made for?

Your guess is as good as mine. Each of these items is made with a purpose in mind and even if you decide to use a cup for another purpose such as painting the wall, that cannot automatically change the cup to a paintbrush. The manufacturer created it in a certain way to fulfil a certain purpose.

God made each of us in a certain way because of the peculiar task He has for us to accomplish. Whether you have discovered that purpose yet or not, never forget that you are the greatest ‘option’ for that purpose. No one can do it quite like you.

No matter what labels others have called you over the years or whatever labels you have tagged yourself which may be limiting your experience, it cannot change the fact that God has chosen  and appointed you to bear long-lasting fruits. And you are complete in Him. No one can change that. You have all it takes to fulfil your destiny.

Therefore, find that purpose because if the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.

Here are a few reflective questions:

- Write out five encouraging words that others have used to describe you.

-Write out five encouraging words that you have used to describe yourself.

-Write out five things from Ephesians 1:1-4 that God uses to describe you.

Let us pray

Father, I am grateful that you chose me to do great work for you. Help me activate the resources within me to accomplish my purpose on the earth, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

I am the greatest. There is no other person like me. God has equipped me specifically for my special task. I will accomplish great things.

Do have a pleasant day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow.

18-JULY-2024 - GODS MASTERPIECE

TITLE: God’s Masterpiece

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Devotional:

Mozart, Beethoven, Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci- Have you heard of these names before? History tells us that these people created great works in music and the arts, and each had an exceptional piece of work that is still priced greatly to this day.

A masterpiece is an exceptional piece of creation from a creator. In the context of today’s passage, you are God’s masterpiece. He ‘outdid’ Himself when He created YOU! When He was done, He said “[put your name..] is exceptional”. Now, if the creator of the whole universe (which we can all agree has some extraordinary creations) created you as the epitome of all His creations, why are you living like you are less than that?  Why are you allowing circumstances to make you think you are not the best? You are worthy. You are priceless.

Here are a few reflective questions:

- When composers and artists create a masterpiece what do they do with it? What is the purpose of a masterpiece?

- What mind shift do I need to have, now that I have been reminded that I am God’s masterpiece?

Let us pray:

Thank you, Father, for equipping me with extraordinary features to accomplish great things for you.

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them

I am God’s best work. He has recreated me in Christ Jesus unto good works. In all I do, I will be my best, for God’s glory.

Go show forth your worth to the world. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow.

17-JULY-2024 - OVERCOMING TEMPTATION

Title:               Overcoming Temptation

The bible verse for today’s devotional is: 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

Devotional:

Jesus' temptation in the wilderness provides a profound lesson on self-love. In facing each temptation, Jesus affirmed his worth and identity as the beloved Son of God. His responses reflected a deep sense of self-worth grounded in his relationship with God. Similarly, when we encounter temptations that challenge our self-worth or worthiness of love, we can draw strength from Jesus' example.

By recognizing our inherent value as God's children, we can resist the lies of temptation that seek to diminish our self-esteem. Just as Jesus relied on the truth of God's Word to combat temptation, we can combat negative self-talk and self-doubt by affirming our identity as cherished and valued individuals.

Embracing self-love means recognizing our worthiness of love and acceptance, not because of our accomplishments or outward appearances, but because of the unconditional love of our Creator. Through this lens, we can navigate temptations with confidence, knowing that our worth is not determined by external factors but by the love of God, who created us in His image

Here are a few reflective questions:

  • What are some common temptations I face in my life that question my self worth?
  • If I reflect on a time when I succumbed to temptation, how did it affect my self-perception?
  • In what ways can self-love empower me to resist temptation and stay true to myself?

Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:

  • I am worthy of love and acceptance.
  • With God's guidance, I can navigate through any challenges that come my way, emerging stronger and more resilient.
