THE MAIN THEME: WHEN DO I GET THERE?
TITLE: THE POWER OF IMAGINATION
The Bible verse for today’s devotional is: 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Devotional:
Think about a time when you thought of something… either a good memory or a thought about something unpleasant, how did it make you feel? I am certain the good thought perhaps brought a smile to your face and the unpleasant thought made you sad or worried. Scientists have shown that what we think can change our physiological responses, i.e. it can change how our bodies react. For instance, a sad thought can make us cry, and a happy thought can make us excited, all from thinking about it- we don’t even need to experience these events to get responses. Imagination is indeed powerful.
Beyond the physiological impact of imagination, is the potential to create actual things and life experiences, all from our minds. Throughout history, great inventions have been made because someone chose to think deeply and consistently about something. They thought about it so much that they no longer saw it as impossible, and in no time, their ‘thoughts’ became a reality.
What if we choose to use our imaginations to create what we truly desire, especially when it is based on the word of God, which means we have God’s backing that it must come to pass?
Our verse for today says, we should take down all imaginations that oppose what God says about us- we know that God loves us, and wants the best for us- it says so repeatedly in the Bible; so that means that any thought (or information) that contradicts the perfect will of God for us should be replaced with the right thoughts - our thoughts should be of abundance, victory, health and all things good and perfect, for that is the will of God for us.
What we think about consistently, will form pictures in our mind and we want to form the right pictures that help us create our desired outcomes. Thinking correctly is a continuous thing, we must choose daily to override the negative thoughts with positive thoughts about how we see ourselves, how we see our present circumstances, and about our dreams for the future. If we can see it in our mind’s eyes, we can achieve it.
Whatever we think is often the product of the information we have, either something we heard or read, so to change our thoughts, we must replace the information we have with superior information. What this means is that if all we are seeing is how our dreams will not work out, and all the obstacles, then we must replace that information with promises from the Bible that assures us that it is possible, and stories of those who succeeded especially in something similar, and use these to form affirmations that we will repeat continuously till our minds pick up these new information and can automatically think of victory rather than failure.
There is a quote by Duane Michals that says “Trust that little voice in your head that says, ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting if……….......; and then do it.” When you catch yourself thinking ‘wouldn’t it be interesting if ( I achieved this or became that…) whatever you think to fill that line, take the time to write it out and go for it- if you can think it (long enough), you will find a way to achieve it. You got this!
Here are a few reflective questions:
- What is constantly in my thoughts?
- Do I doubt what I imagine?
Let Us Pray:
Dear God, I thank you for the gift of my imagination. Help me see as far you want me to and give me the courage to go for all you have planned for me to achieve in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Please say these words of affirmation. Say them, mean them, own them and live them:
- God knows when I will get there.
- I have a powerful mind
- I can create my world through my imagination
- I choose today to see only great things- no limitations
Do have a fulfilling day. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow!
