TITLE: LEAVING A LEGACY: WHAT WILL YOU BE REMEMBERED FOR?

 The quote for today’s devotional is:

Devotional:

Phoebe had been quite withdrawn in the last few weeks before her high school graduation. While she was not a noisy or loud child, she was unusually quiet which made her parents worry. She was the school head girl, her grades were still great, and she was not physically ill; this made it more difficult to fathom what was wrong.

A day before returning to the boarding house to take her final WAEC papers, she whispered to her mother, “When I leave the school in July, I don’t think anyone will remember me”.

Her mother responded, "That is nonsense, you were the school prefect, of course, they will remember you”, and she went on to list her daughter’s achievements throughout high school.

But the more her mother reflected on it, the more she realized there was some truth in her daughter’s concern.

As we go through life, there will be times that we may wonder if our life is counting for something. Whether we accomplish great things in life (by human standards) or not, some people will remember us, primarily because of the role we played in their lives, and even that may wane after some time because human beings tend to forget; and that is ok. Even we forget others because we are human too.

Rather than bother about the things you cannot control, a better perspective to life and healthy living would be to do your best wherever you are, and with whatever opportunities God sends your way, and then relax knowing that your legacy of faith will inspire some people, maybe not everyone. 

A legacy worth leaving is one in which you bloom to light up your world and that light is the reason why another person stands in faith.

Here are a few reflective questions:

• If my friends or family members were to describe me using one word. What would it be?  
• Will that description of me impact people  positively or negatively?

Let us pray:

Dear God, help me be a light bearer, passing on the legacy of faith in my generation in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Discovering your purpose is a journey that starts with understanding how God has uniquely created you. Think of someone like Nick Vujicic, who, despite being born without limbs, found his purpose in inspiring and motivating millions to live full lives through faith and perseverance.

Jeremiah 29:11 assures us that God has a plan for each of us, filled with hope and a bright future. Your purpose is not just about what career you choose but how you live your life and impact others even through your career.

Take time to explore your interests, seek God’s guidance, and listen to what He is calling you to do. Each step you take toward your purpose brings you closer to fulfilling the unique plan God has for you.

1. What are some of my passions and talents that could help me discover my purpose?
2. How can I seek God’s guidance to understand His plan for my life?

Dear God, You created me and you know the plans you have for me, please help me to discover the purpose why you created me, so that I can fulfil it. Amen!

You have a unique spark that sets you apart. Just like each star has its own brilliance, you shine in your own way. Think of someone like Albert Einstein, who, despite being considered different, revolutionized our understanding of the universe with his unique perspective. Your gifts and talents are your spark, and God has placed them in you to fulfill a special purpose.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s masterpiece, created to do amazing things. Embrace your individuality and let your spark shine brightly. Use your unique qualities to bless others and make a difference in the world.

2. How can I let my light shine in everyday situations?

TITLE: FINDING PURPOSE IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY

 The bible verses for today’s devotional are: Luke 1:30-32 & Romans 8:28 (NIV)

“But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David”

 and

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Devotional:

I am sure you are wondering why this Christmas story in August? This story has lessons that are beyond just one season.

Mary was told by the angel that she would birth the saviour of the world - JESUS. Apart from the awkwardness of being pregnant before marriage and having to face the curious stares and whispers in the neighborhood, she also had to give birth in a smelly barn. I won’t be surprised if a part of her must have wondered.. “How is this a fantastic opportunity? How is all of this a good thing?” The Bible does not say that she had ready answers...but she chose to keep going- she chose to trust God. To keep doing her best as she waits to see the fulfilment of God’s promise.

Our second bible verse reminds us that……all things work together for good to those who love God.

In life there will be several opportunities to question our faith, sometimes even when we have done all the right things, things will still not fall into place as we had hoped. That is an opportunity to take a step higher on the ‘trust God’ ladder. It won't be easy, but that is the safest place to be…to rest, and trust that God will make something good come out of the mess. It won't be easy but it's worth it.

• In the last week or month, what uncertainty have I been worried about?
• What three things am I grateful for despite the troubles?
• What practical steps can I take to move forward despite the uncertainties?

Let us pray:

Dear God, I thank you because you are the God of impossibilities. Help me trust you to work all things for my good despite what I am going through in Jesus’ name. Amen.

• I am here because God is with me, I am not alone.
• Greater is He who is in me.
• All things are working for my good.

Always remember, you are not alone. Take good care of yourself and see you tomorrow.
